Build 4.0.0.65 of xlsgen fixes the localization of all Excel functions supported by xlsgen, which means 500+ functions, in 6 languages including English, French, German, Spanish, Italian and Portuguese.

The formulas page in the documentation reflects how any function is called depending on the language of your choice (English by default).

As an example, a function such as AVERAGEIFS() in English was still called AVERAGEIFS() in German even though according to Microsoft Excel, it's MITTELWERTWENNS().

This did not affect how xlsgen stored formulas in Excel files, particularly XLSX/XLSM/... where formulas are stored in plain text, because formulas are supposed to be stored in English.

But for every other scenario, improper localization would add friction to someone used to Excel functions in their language. xlsgen fixes this with this build, at least for 6 languages.

Reminder : in the automatic source code generation tool which ships with xlsgen, you can choose which language to use for formulas.

Je suis très en dehors de tout ce qui est appareils mobiles, et par conséquent encore plus des services de banque en ligne. Mais je me disais quand même qu'avec les trous de sécurité manifestes depuis 15 ans, les gens qui se lancent dans la création d'un tel service, ainsi que ceux qui mettent le tampon "banque agréée" dessus, ont une idée ou deux de ce que c'est que la sécurité.

Il faut croire que non. L'une des pure players des banques en ligne nées en Europe l'année dernière, N26, et très en vue, est un exemple parfait que l'interface utilisateur d'une application mobile cache une misère en terme de protection des données et de validation sure des étapes des procédures.

Après plusieurs jours d'aller-retour et autres infirmations d'affirmations sans preuves au sujet de supposés hacking par les Russes de l'administration américaine, on apprend par le journal à l'origine de la fuite :

Les Russes sont tellement forts qu'ils arrivent à cacher leurs méfaits à travers des activités parfaitement licites. Ce qui sont des propos que l'on attribue habituellement aux conspirationnistes...

Google is in full swing for the identity war, without much fanfare. According to John battelle, who runs an online ad business, Google recently changed their licensing terms and removed the sentence where it says they are not combining their data with DoubleClick's, a previous acquisition which uses cookies to track people online through ads.

There you have it. To do yourself anything good, you can either filter out all HTTP/HTTPS requests with doubleclick in it (and all the variations, such as doubleclk), and you can configure your web browser to delete all cookies after a session. Of course if you are using a mobile device, chances are you won't be able to do any of this.

Which means mobile devices are 1) a trap and 2) a tool of ultra-capitalism in all its incarnations (surveillance being one of them).

At some point, you will probably have to go online only when absolutely necessary and stay offline the rest of the time. Or, even more radical, take a hammer and smash those mobile devices of yours.

Evoquer par l'exemple factuel de l'incroyable manque de déontologie de la part de Apple et de Microsoft, c'est oublier de temps en temps que les autres géants de l'internet ne sont pas mieux.

Rigolons donc tous ensemble avec Google.

Google qui est pourtant craint par l'ensemble des gens qui ont un site sur internet, ou des news à publier ou des annonces à faire, bref pratiquement tout ce qui compte d'acteurs de l'internet.

Cette crainte, Google la fait vivre et ressentir au quotidien en obligeant les acteurs de l'internet à se conformer à son diktat pour espérer pouvoir être référencé correctement. Ce diktat va très loin puisqu'il va jusqu'à contraindre sur de multiples points la façon dont le contenu est formaté, la quantité de contenu sur une page, l'organisation même du contenu (le seul fait de répéter un propos pourrait vous pénaliser).

Et bien figurez-vous que tout le monde croit que Google est le roi de l'internet, que rien ne pourrait être plus faux.

En l'espèce, Google vient d'annoncer qu'il allait se conformer au diktat d'associations communitaires microscopiques mais très militantes et oeuvrant en secret avec manifestement de graves représailles en qu'à de refus d'obéir, et Google annonce qu'il va changer son index de façon à notamment à ce que les sites supposés révisionnistes puissent ne plus être référencés comme ils le sont aujourd'hui.

Pourtant, Google a toujours affirmé que la position d'un site dans son index reflétait sa popularité auprès de ceux qui font des recherches et qui cliquent, et par conséquent il n'y a aucune légitimité à changer son index sauf à s'auto-détruire.

Conclusions :

Google est prêt à détruire ce qui a fait son succès depuis quinze ans, au profit d'associations communautaires qui ont su faire passer leur message (lisez : qui ont fait comprendre à Google qu'il y aurait de graves représailles sinon)

Google se soumet sans tergiverser.

Corollaire :

Lorsque les acteurs de l'internet se soumettent à Google, et que Google se soumet à quelques associations communautaires très militantes, qui contrôle internet en fin de compte ? Vous avez deux heures...

Je ne l'avais pas vu passer, mais Apple a décidé de contraindre les développeurs d'applications sur l'app store à utiliser HTTPS pour toute communication, après installation, entre l'application installée sur le matériel de l'utilisateur final et le serveur ou les serveurs du développeur, y compris d'ailleurs les tiers publicitaires.

Apple ne manque pas de culot car d'une part c'est un faux sentiment de sécurité qui est introduit et d'autre part la contrainte est forte pour le développeur d'applications.

En effet, d'une part le fait qu'un algorithme de cryptage soit utilisé ne justifie pas mieux l'envoi de données personnelles de l'utilisateur si celui-ci n'en est pas conscient et ne l'a pas explicitement accepté. Ce n'était pas acceptable sans cryptage, ça ne l'est pas plus avec.

D'autre part, mettre en place HTTPS sur son serveur suppose que ce dernier utilise une adresse IP publique et qu'il y a dessus un certificat qui coûte au bas mot 100 euros par an. L'adresse IP publique n'est obtenue qu'avec un hébergement web spécial qui coûte au bas mot 5 fois plus cher qu'un hébergement normal, en sus de ces 100 euros annuels. Autrement dit, l'obligation d'utiliser HTTPS est une façon pour Apple de sélectionner uniquement les développeurs qui ont les moyens financiers de le mettre en oeuvre.

Cela s'inscrit plus dans la suite de la suppression dans l'app store dont Apple souhaite se débarrasser sans avoir à le justifier. Pour ceux que ça vise, c'est un rappel que le "walled garden" de Apple, qui lui donne le droit de mort sur chaque application, un monopole injustifié car d'un côté l'app store est censé être un tuyau neutre dans lequel Apple ne cherche pas à filtrer le bon grain de l'ivraie, et de l'autre le marché décide déjà quelles sont les "bonnes" applications. Apple s'arroge donc le privilège d'interférer au delà du téléchargement d'une application de son app store, ce qui permet de mettre en doute sa bonne foi et sa neutralité

Je ne suis pas surpris par la politique de Apple, qui fait l'effet d'un tir dans le dos. Et je me réjouis de n'avoir jamais rien investi dans ce domaine.

Apple a raison sur le plan fiscal

Autant sur le plan commercial et philosophique, je pense qu'Apple est une entreprise dégueulasse, autant sur le plan fiscal je pense qu'on ne peut pas reprocher à Apple de ne pas exercer les lois fiscales en vigueur.

Les lois fiscales obligent à payer la TVA correspondant au pays de résidence du consommateur et payer des impôts au pays du siège social de l'entreprise.

Autrement dit, à partir du moment où Apple paye à l'état français la TVA pour tous les produits achetés en France, et que Apple Irlande paye à l'état irlandais les impôts correspondant à leur revenu, je ne vois pas bien ce qui pourrait leur être reproché.

L'enjeu, si j'ai bien compris, porte sur la partie impôt sur le revenu, ce qui voudrait dire que le manque à gagner n'est pas pour l'état français, mais uniquement l'état irlandais.

Qu'il y ait des inspecteurs fiscaux qui ont envie de se faire Apple et compagnie pour donner des gages de gauchisme lors des futures élections et sur la base d'une instrumentalisation au moins partielle du fisc par des politiques par ailleurs entièrement soumis au capital, je le conçois, mais peut-être qu'il faudrait une petite dose de neutralité.

Par ailleurs, à l'heure du big data, je ne vois comment les tiers qui participent aux ventes de Apple ne pourraient pas donner un ordre d'idée assez précis du business dans chaque pays de façon à collecter correctement la TVA ou payer les impôts sur une base calculée correctement.

Mais il y a une arme encore plus forte, il y en a même deux. La première que je passe rapidement, c'est une campagne d'information sur la réalité de Apple, comme il y a pu en avoir il y a quelques années sur un des sous-traitants de Apple en Asie, Foxconn. Apple n'aime pas ça, mais alors pas du tout. Ils savent que c'est au détriment de leur chiffre d'affaire. L'autre, plus individuelle, plus capitalistique finalement, c'est le boycott de la marque. Vous estimez que Apple doit de l'argent aux états? Très simple, cessez d'acheter de l'Apple. Vous pouvez même utiliser les réseaux sociaux pour suggérer à d'autres personnes de cesser d'acheter de l'Apple. Effet garanti.

L'ironie de la situation est qu'Apple s'essoufle depuis plusieurs années, elle ne suscite plus l'intérêt et l'engouement, souvent irrationnels, des années précédentes, en allant jusqu'à proposer du matériel à obsolescence programmée. Quand on voit ce que fait Apple tout seul pour se tirer dans les pattes, peut-être qu'en réalité il n'y a pas besoin d'en rajouter...

Microsoft has announced that they will begin supporting the emulation of existing x86 applications on ARM. This is, in my view, utter BS, FUD and you should keep ignoring the morons.

First of all, if you remember a few years back, 2012, from Steven Sinofsky (at the time head of Windows and of Windows on ARM in particular) :

extrait : "Supporting various forms of emulation runs counter to the goal of delivering a product that takes a modern approach to system reliability and predictability—by definition, existing code has not been optimized for the platform the way WOA (Windows on ARM) has. Virtualized or emulated software will consume system resources, including battery life and CPU, at unacceptable levels. Emulation and virtualization of existing x86/64 software also require the traditional PC environment of mouse and keyboard, which is not a good assumption for WOA PCs.

If we enabled the broad porting of existing code we would fail to deliver on our commitment to longer battery life, predictable performance, and especially a reliable experience over time. The conventions used by today’s Windows apps do not necessarily provide this, whether it is background processes, polling loops, timers, system hooks, startup programs, registry changes, kernel mode code, admin rights, unsigned drivers, add-ins, or a host of other common techniques. By avoiding these constructs, WOA can deliver on a new level of customer satisfaction: your WOA PC will continue to perform well over time as apps are isolated from the system and each other, and you will remain in control of what additional software is running on your behalf, all while letting the capabilities of diverse hardware shine through."

I think this fairly tells you anything you need to know on the subject. And it could be a lot worse in the case of what's announced because WOA was Windows effectively natively running on ARM (both kernel and user) with ARM instructions and tweaked to accomodate the needs of more modern CPU architecture. This along with a new SDK, WinRT, meant to expose features to developers for becoming good citizens (read : do not fuck the battery) on the system.

This has failed miserably in the market, as everyone knows, but at least there was something native, not emulated, to play with. Now Microsoft announces something emulated. It means your compute power is going to spend its time emulating stuff instead of running native code. If it's user mode only (Windows drivers run at the kernel level), it will create so many compatibility problems that everyone will see how shortsighted that was to begin with. And for what reason? Why would someone using so-called legacy X86 apps run them on something else than X86 processors ? If ARM has a more modern architecture which allows to make gains in significant areas, such as battery and so on, there is no free lunch, you have to write code carefully to obtain exactly that. That is the exact opposite of running emulated X86 apps untouched and expecting them to run well.

Emulation is for the past (console games for instance). Modern CPUs have the horse power to meet our needs and we need all that horse power. Plus many if not all ARM devices are portable devices, which means they come along with a plethora of sensors. Desktop computers don't have any. In other words, by doing this, Microsoft is making the same blind move it made with Windows mobile before when they announced a unified API (WinRT) for targeting mobile and desktop devices. That was a non-starter because the devices are so different in just about everything that they need SPECIFIC software to be written for them.



For the record, back in 2012,

Build 4.0.0.64 of xlsgen advances the previous build by adding even more capability to string matching in xlsgen.

What if we could match strings differing not only on spaces and punctuations but on some sort of letter combinations such as substitution, insertion and deletion? Let's see an example of that :

In this example, we start with a number of variations of string "abcdef" in which we have a number of spaces and punctuations and also swapped letters, missing letters and additional letters.

If in Excel we create a conditional formatting meant to highlight strings matching "abcdef", only the two first rows get highlighted in Excel. And for a reason, they differ only on the case. Add any space, punctuation let alone letters and Excel sees all of these as different strings.

If you are using xlsgen and the punctations mode for fuzzy string matching, then xlsgen highlights many rows but far from all rows. Specifically, xlsgen does not highlight rows where there is at least one letter combination such as swapping, insertion or deletion.

And if you are using xlsgen with the letters mode for fuzzy string matching, then xlsgen all of a sudden highlights almost all rows. In fact, the only which doesn't is because a letter appears three times which is regarded as too different.

Here is how you do this in xlsgen,

What is this good for in practice? It turns out this is really useful to have such a versatile fuzzy string matching because letter substitutions are exactly what happens with manually entered data in the real world. Indeed, often letters are simply swapped, or they are missing letters or too many letters. Combined with supporting spaces, punctuations and case, this looks like the perfect tool for getting your job done as fast and accurately as possible.

This is indeed an additional tool in your arsenal and we are looking forward to seeing customers out there taking advantage of it for improving how they handle real world data, which is often full of errors.

I think Yahoo's latest troubles with their email service is a perfect opportunity for rewriting the email database with more security awareness. Obviously the hashing algorithm for passwords should become something proprietary and be at least more in line with today's brute force capabilities, so certainly more than 128 bits. It's very easy to do, it's the job of a single person, not an entire company's, and yet it can save the entire company and one of the internet myth of ours.

Build 4.0.0.63 of xlsgen introduces the capability to match strings in a manner more useful than what is usually done.

Fuzzy string matching allows to compare content in cells and ignore not only the case, but also spaces as well as punctuation signs. The reason behind this is that real data may differ just by a few characters such as spaces or punctuations and it's sub-optimal that Excel regards such strings as different whereas they are really the same.

With fuzzy string matching, "AB" = "A B" = "A,B" = "a-b" and so on.

This mechanism for comparing strings is through out xlsgen, whether in cell formulas, or elsewhere such as conditional formatting formulas, autofilter expressions, sort and so on.

By default, string matching has the strict behavior, which means strings match if everything is the same except the case, so "AB" = "ab", but "AB" != "A B".

By activating the string matching algorithm with the new enumeration that is being introduced,

So once the FuzzyStringMatch property is set as above, calculations whether direct or indirect involving comparison operators such as =, <=, >=, <, > and != behave accordingly. Also when you are using functions doing string matching internally such as MATCH() and LOOKUP().

Those variants differ in the addition of one or more space characters, case as well as punctuation characters as well as character substitutions which are arguably not variants of "AB".

If you are in Excel, select this range and create a conditional formatting on it where the condition to turn its background as yellow whenever the following condition applies : A1="AB", then only the first row gets highlighted because Excel does a strict match.

If xlsgen is used to create such conditional formatting, that would yield :

And the result would be the same than in Excel, for instance if you export the sheet as a PDF file to get the conditional formattings evaluated and rendered.

Now if all those variants are just regarded the same as "AB" itself, there is no reason to lose them at all. And if you are using Excel, you would have to write a custom VBA macro function whose calculation would implement fuzzy string matching. xlsgen does it for you. All you have to do is add the following line of code before the conditional formattings get evaluated :

And then, something magic occurs :

All variants of "AB" get highlighted, but "AC" and other combinations aren't for not being variants after all : character "C" isn't character "B".

Since Excel does not support fuzzy string matching, the resulting file, next time it's opened in Excel, will not highlight those rows. It's therefore important to understand this context of calculations exists when xlsgen is used for calculations and rendering, not Excel.

Apple's media-sponsored and fabricated reputation got a little tainted today when they (Apple) issue a warning to stop a software update for the Apple watch from being downloaded and installed after reports began informing Apple watch users that there was a likelihood of rotting the Apple watch.

I think it's fair to say that any such product should never need any software update whatsoever and that any such software update is equivalent to a breach of contract with the person who purchased the product.

A software update should, at best, for those ok to pay the risk of doing so, be actively turn on by the user himself in order for the product to be updated and risk arbitrary malfunctions.

Microsoft, Apple and many others should be in jail for this practice. Being giant market players, they have made as if any one who purchased the product must also pay for the risk of arbitrary malfunction resulting from changing its internal software. This is the equivalent of getting knocked in the face by a complete stranger in the street and then be sued by this stranger.

Build 4.0.0.62 of xlsgen updates the autofit column width computation by taking into account the width of arrows of auto-filters, wherever applicable.

Build 4.0.0.61 adds support for a number of math trigonometry functions in the calculation engine. The functions were already supported for read and write purposes. The list goes as follows :

Build 4.0.0.60 of xlsgen adds support for wildcards (*, ? and ~) in the following database functions in the calculation engine : DAVERAGE, DCOUNT, DCOUNTA, DGET, DMAX, DMIN, DPRODUCT, DSTDEV, DSTDEVP, DSUM, DVAR and DVARP.

In other words, if you are using for instance a database function such as DSUM(A6:C10;"Sales";B1:B3), the criterias referenced in B1:B3 may use strings of the form Daliv*o which in turn will match strings in A6:C10 such as Dalivpo or Dalivio.

D'un côté vous avez LinkedIn en passe d'être rachetée par Microsoft pour 26 milliards de dollars, dans un contexte de conflit d'intérêt tellement manifeste que cette vente devrait être interdite notamment par l'Europe (en effet, Windows collecte de nombreuses informations personnelles sans aucun consentement et pourra les coupler avec celles de LinkedIn). Par ailleurs Microsoft est sous le coup de plusieurs enquêtes pour évasion fiscale (irlande, irish sandwish, ...)

De l'autre un acteur français du réseau professionnel, Viadeo, qui certes est arrivé plus tard sur le marché que LinkedIn, mais parce qu'il est français et européen peut adresser un marché bien mieux en déployant les problématiques métiers de notre pays qu'il connait forcément mieux.

Toutes les deux sont des startup, largement financées par conséquent par le capital risque.

On apprend aujourd'hui que Viadeo est en redressement judiciaire. C'est une boite morte. Elle ne bénéficie même pas du soutien public national ou européen pour permettre l'essor certes privé mais au moins plus "local" de ce type de réseau. Le problème des startups et du capital risque est manifeste. Les argentiers, qui utilisent de l'argent de singe, favorisent les bulldozers américains et exploitent l'ouverture des frontières pour conquérir la planète. Cette conquête n'est pas légitime car elle menée avec le silence complice des autorités de régulation alors que les conséquences d'avoir un seul acteur dans un secteur donné sont dévastatrices pour la vie privée, l'emploi et l'idée même de service informatique.

Ce qui est vrai pour Viadeo l'est aussi pour la recherche en ligne, pour les réseaux sociaux, etc. Honnêtement je ne comprends pas.

C'est drôle. Ca commence avec des types qui disent, créer votre compte gratuitement et partager vos articles et vos liens. Et ça finit en sous-traitant des flics, c'est-à-dire du politiquement correct. A quoi bon dans ces conditions? Un total dévoiement d'internet. Bientôt google qui possède youtube supprimera les vidéos dont le contenu journalistique est trop faible.

La corée du nord est semble-t-il un exemple pour ces gens là. A moins que, à moins que, depuis le début on nous a menti (disclaimer : je n'ai pas de compte facebook) et que le projet réel de facebook est en train d'être révélé peu à peu. Soutenir le capital avec les révolutions arabes, là oui c'est open bar y compris pour montrer des vidéos atroces. Mais oser tenir un propos discutable, donc débatable, sur un réseau social, alors là non !

La ficelle est grosse. J'enjoins tous mes lecteurs, fussent-ils fortuits, à prendre conscience que facebook, ce n'est pas bon pour la société. Juste bon, excellent même, pour le capital. Pas bien nouveau tout ça...

Défaite morale de politiques qui ont voulu nous imposer leur agenda mondialiste. Et défaite déontologique des sondages et des médias qui l'ont véhiculé.

Il s'agit de la même défaite que ce qui s'est passé aux états-unis. Et c'est sans surprise que désormais les médias ont bien envie de faire la peau à internet, le moyen par lequel les gens du terroir ont pu se rendre compte de la propagande à l'oeuvre. Plus jamais ça doivent se dire ce matin les médias français et leurs instituts de sondage associés.
